Learn to play

Q: Where can I learn how to play?

Our Find Play page currently lists places to play in Spokane and whether they have instructors!

Rose Jones (rosemariejones@comcast.net) is a fantastic instructor who currently holds (insanely affordable) clinics at Broadway. Rose is a Tennis Hall of Famer, PTPA Certified Instructor, and two-time USA Pickleball National Champion!

Power Pickleball Club has an amazing group of instructors and offers 3 FREE weekly Pickleball 101 classes. Check out their full list of instructional offerings here: https://widgets.courtreserve.com/Online/Public/EmbedCode/11753/43135

Q: Where can I find intermediate or advanced lessons?

Rose Jones (rosemariejones@comcast.net), or the coaches at Power Pickleball Club offer great opportunities to grow your game. Contact Power Pickleball Club at 509-919-4344 to schedule with Clint Castleman, John Petty, or Selkirk Emerging Pro, Jase Edwards. Q: Where's a good place for beginners?

Both playtimescheduler.com and pickleheads.com list various sessions. Generally, beginners are going to be between 2.0 and 3.0. As you learn all the rules and can sustain rallies and start to use a variety of shots with increased consistency you might be up to 3.0 or 3.25.

Playtimescheduler.com and Pickleheads.com are fantastic free resources that allow players to schedule (not reserve) games at public and private courts in the area. It's most commonly used at Comstock, Mission, and Bidwell parks but new locations are being added all the time.

Drop-in play

Q: Where can I find drop-in play?

Check out our Find Play page for a list of local public outdoor hardcourts, private indoor hardcourts, and private indoor woodcourts as well as the links to their various schedules and programming.

Q: Why is it so hard to remember the score?

Great question. If you have any tips for this one, we're all ears! 😆

Membership

Q: Why do we need a public pickleball club?

As the Spokane pickleball community continues to grow, local public options have struggled to keep pace. We regularly hear of people reaching out and asking where they can play, where to get lessons, and otherwise how to get plugged into playing pickleball here in Spokane.

Other communities all across the nation have formed public clubs to address similar needs to ours. Seeing all they've been able to build, we can't help but feel inspired — and even a bit envious! To address our community's specific needs, we believe that forming a trustworthy, accountable, and community-led non-profit organization is an essential ingredient for success.

Building a thriving public pickleball scene requires a blend of public and private funding. Many public grants are more likely to be awarded when a community can demonstrate existing public support for their cause. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, the SPC can accept tax-deductible donations as well as coordinate with private sponsors to help fund capital projects.

Q: How do I become a member?

SPC Membership is on a 12-month rolling basis. 100% of proceeds are re-invested into the Spokane parks and public pickleball opportunities.

Financials

Q: How will the SPC use the money it raises?

We are 100% volunteer so every dollar raised beyond our modest operating expenses goes to improve courts, provide equipment, and increase public opportunities to learn and play pickleball in Spokane.

We're also looking to offer our SPC members promotional discounts with our partners such as the one we currently have with PickleballCentral which is negotiated by USA Pickleball.

Q: Can I donate to the SPC?

Yes! We have partnered with the Spokane Parks Foundation which can recieve tax-deductible donations on our behalf via their giving platform GiveButter.com.
